Posting of IAS officers of 1989 batch as J. S. in GOI
The CSB had recommended fifty IAS officers of 1989 batch for empanelment in the rank of Joint Secretary or equivalent in the Central Government. According to sources, the posting of these officers as Joint Secretary in the Government of India is not expected before the mid of February, 2009.

The Department of Commerce had created two new positions of Joint Secretary in the month of June, 2008. For appointment on one of the newly created post the name of two IAS officers Mr. Ashok Lavasa, IAS (HY, 1980) and Mr. Raghav Chandra, IAS (MP, 1982) is believed to be in consideration.
Mr. P. D. Vaghela appointed Chairman, Kandla Port Trust
Finally Mr. P. D. Vaghela, IAS (GJ, 1986) has been appointed as Chairman of Kandla Port Trust under the Department of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways.
Mr. Alok Sinha-II may be appointed J. S., Commerce
Mr. Alok Sinha-II, IAS (UP, 1986) is said to be frontrunner for the post of Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce. Few other officers including one IAS officer of 1988 batch are in consideration for this newly created post.
Mr. R. K. Tandon may be appointed MD, IRCTC
The name of Mr. R. K. Tandon, IRTS is almost final for appointment as Managing Director of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), sources said.

Mr. Dilip Kumar Pandey, CSS (1977) has been appointed as Joint Secretary in the Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs in place of Ms. P. V. G. Kutty, CSS, who superannuated on the last day of November, 2008.
Mr. D. P. Singh appointed J. S., Earth Sciences
Mr. Devinder Pal Singh, IAS (UP, 1980), Secretary, National Commission for Safai Karmacharis, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has been appointed as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Earth Sciences. The position was held earlier by Mr. Prakash Kumar, an IAS officer of 1985 batch from UT cadre, who took voluntary retirement.
Mr. S. Shyam to join Rural Development?
Mr. Sudhir Shyam, Indian Economic Service (1999) is tipped to be in consideration for appointment as Director in the Department of Rural Development. The post held earlier by Ms. Ranjana Gupta, IFS (AM, 1986), is lying vacant following her being shifted to the Ministry of Environment & Forests in the month of July, 2008.
Mr. Shiv Kumar may be appointed Director, NDMA
It is tipped that Mr. Shiv Kumar, IDSE (1986) may be appointed as Director in the National Disaster Management Authority, Ministry of Home Affairs.

Who will be appointed as GM, Food Corporation of India (FCI) at Hyderabad, Department of Food and Public Distribution? The earlier incumbent to the post, Dr. Ravi Kota, IAS (AM, 1993) was shifted to the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution as Director in the month of June, 2008.

According to sources, the name of Mr. P. H. Kurian, IAS (KL, 1986) is almost final for appointment as Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks. The position is equivalent to the rank of Joint secretary and based at Mumbai under the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce.
