Mr. Rahul Khullar, IAS (UT, 1975), Special Secretary in the Department of Commerce is said to be the most probable contender to become next Secretary, Ministry of Power. Mr. Anil Razdan, IAS (HY, 1973), Secretary, Ministry of Power is superannuating on the last day of year 2008. The name of Mr. Ashok Kumar Nigam, IAS (UT, 1974), Vice Chairman of Delhi Development Authority, Mr. Ajay Shanker, IAS (UP, 1973), Secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Mr. U. N. Panjiyar, IAS (BH, 1973), Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources too is doing rounds as probables for this post.

Five officers of 1989 batch may be elevated soon

Five IAS officers of 1989 batch who have been empanelled for holding the post of Joint Secretary or equivalent in the Government of India may be elevated soon to fill up some of the important posts in the level of Joint Secretary lying vacant. Mr. Govind Mohan, IAS (SK, 1989), Director in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance may be appointed on the post of Joint Secretary, Economic Affairs held earlier by Mr. Arvind Mayaram, IAS (RJ, 1978) who has become Additional Secretary & FA in the Ministry of Rural Development. Mr. Maninder Singh, IAS (AM, 1989), Director in the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas may soon be shifted to some other important assignment under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, sources informed. Mr. Singh, who is believed to have lost to some other officer in the race for the post of Joint Secretary (Exploration), may be appointed as Executive Director, Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) or else shifted to the Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board. Mr. Amitabh Jain, IAS (CG, 1989), Joint Director in the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFIT), Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry may be appointed on the newly created post of Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce. Mr. Devesh Chaturvedi, IAS (UP, 1989), Director in the Ministry of Tourism may become next Additional D. G., Tourism in the office of D. G. Tourism, Ministry of Tourism. The earlier incumbent to the post, Mr. Sanjay Kothari, IAS (HY, 1978) has been appointed on the newly created post of Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism following his empanelment for holding the post of Additional Secretary or equivalent in the Government of India, few months back. Mr. Pravir Krishna, IAS (MP, 1987), Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare will complete his central deputation tenure on 15th February, 2009. It is tipped that the name of Mr. Amit Mohan Prasad, IAS (UP, 1989), Director in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare may be considered to succeed Mr. Krishna as next Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

The bosses of two of the most high profile intelligence agencies of India; Indian Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) are retiring soon. Mr. Rajiv Mathur, IPS (UP, 1972), Special Director, IB will succeed Mr. P. C. Haldar, IPS (BH, 1970), who is retiring on 31st December, 2008, as the next Director of the Indian Intelligence Bureau.
