Who will become the next Home Secretary?

Who will succeed Mr. Madhukar Gupta, IAS (UL, 1971) as the next Home Secretary? There few names doing rounds to be appointed as the next Secretary, Home and it may happen that amongst these important officers, tipped as contenders for this post, Mr. T. Nanda Kumar, IAS (JH, 1972), Secretary in the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture may emerge as dark horse and become next Home Secretary.

Mr. R. K. Singh may go to Canada

Following the joining of Dr. Syed Naseem Ahmad Zaidi, IAS (UP, 1976) as Director-General, Civil Aviation in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the post of India’s Representative to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Montreal, Canada held earlier by him has fallen vacant. There are two IAS officers of Kerala cadre alongwith Mr. Rajesh Kumar Singh, IAS (MT, 1985), Joint Secretary, Civil Aviation, who are tipped to be in the race for the post. Dr. Zaidi, prior to joining ICAO in November, 2005, was Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation and if the tradition persists and prior experience of working in the Civil Aviation Ministry is considered for appointment of next India’s Representative to ICAO, Mr. Singh, whose tenure has been extended twice upto 31st January, 2009 as Joint Secretary, Civil Aviation is the natural contender for the post.

Mr. Raghav Chandra may become J. S., Commerce

Mr. Jayant Dasgupta, IAS (BH, 1981), Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry will complete his central deputation tenure on 18th January, 2009. According to sources, the name of Mr. Raghav Chandra, IAS (MP, 1982) is in consideration to succeed Mr. Chandra as the next Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce.

Mr. S. S. Gupta may succeed Mr. K. S. Mallick

The name of Mr. Shiv Shankar Gupta, IAS (AM, 1982), Principal Resident Commissioner of Meghalaya House is believed to be in consideration for appointment as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. Mr. K. S. Mallick, CSS, Joint Secretary, Commission for Economically Backward Classes in the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment will superannuate on 31st December, 2008 and Mr. Gupta may be appointed as successor to Mr. Mallick.

Mr. Rajeev Sharma to become Director (Finance), PFC?


Mr. Rajeev Sharma, Executive Director in the Power Finance Corporation Ltd. may be appointed as Director (Finance), Power Finance Corporation Ltd.

Appointment of GM, FCI

Who will be appointed as GM, Food Corporation of India (FCI) at Hyderabad, Department of Food and Public Distribution? The earlier incumbent to the post, Dr. Ravi Kota, IAS (AM, 1993) was shifted to the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution as Director in the month of June, 2008.

Mr. G. S. Hira may be appointed Director, Agriculture & Cooperation

Mr. Guninder Singh Hira, Indian Railway Accounts Service (1990) may be appointed as Director in the Department of Agriculture & Cooperation. The post is lying vacant following the completion of central deputation tenure of Mr. P. K. Sharma, IFS (1986), who was serving on this post in September, 2008.

Ms. Renu Amitabh not join Economic Affairs

The recommendation of CSB to appoint Ms. Renu Amitabh, IRS (IT, 1991) as Director in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance in place of Mr. Sanjay Kumar, IAS (NL, 1992) has been cancelled.

Mr. Ajay Malhotra appointed Ambassador to Kuwait


Mr. Ajay Malhotra, at present, serving as DPR/Ambassador in the Permanent Mission of India at New York has been appointed as India’s next Ambassador to Kuwait.

Mr. A. K. Singh likely to become Director (Tariff), DERC

Mr. Anil Kumar Singh, Commissioner of Income Tax, Surat is likely to be appointed as Director (Tariff) in Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC).
