Ms. Rita Menon to be next Secretary, AYUSH?

The name Ms. Rita Menon, IAS (UP, 1975), Special Secretary in the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance is doing rounds for appointment as next Secretary, Department of Ayurveda Yoga and Naturopathy Unani Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. At present, Mr. Naresh Dayal, IAS (UP:72), Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is holding the additional charge of Secretary, AYUSH following the retirement of Ms. Anita Das, IAS (MP, 1972), the earlier incumbent to the post.

Syed Naseem A. Zaidi to be next DGCA

Syed Naseem A. Zaidi, IAS (UP, 1976), India’s Representative at the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) under the Ministry of Civil Aviation is all set to join as next Director-General, Civil Aviation in the month of Decmber, 2008, sources informed. Dr. Zaidi will complete his current tenure in the month of November, 2008.

Appointment of J. S. (Exploration), Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas

The appointment of Joint Secretary (Exploration), Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas is news for quite some time now. The post was held earlier by Mr. A. K. Jain, IAS (MP, 1986) and lying vacant since the completion of his tenure on 29th June, 2008. Initially, it was speculated that Mr. Jain will be given extension but that didn’t happened and the name of Mr. Maninder Singh, IAS (AM, 1989), Director, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas came up for this post but it is belived that the unexpected long delay in the empanelment of IAS officers of 1989 batch in the rank of Joint Secretary in the Central Government ruined his chances. The name of Mr. Apurva Chandra, IAS (MH, 1988), Resident Commissioner, Maharashtra Sadan, New Delhi once again has started doing rounds as contendor for the post of Joint Secretary (Exploration) in the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. Prior to this, Mr. Chandra’s name did rounds for the post of Joint Secretary (Refinery), Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Mr. Chandra has been previously associated with the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas from November, 1999 to May, 2004, when he served as Private Secretary to the then Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Mr. Ram Naik.

Next J. S., Economic Affairs?

One post of Joint Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance has fallen vacant following the appointment of Mr. Arvind Mayaram, IAS (RJ, 1978) as Additional Secretary & FA in the Ministry of Rural Development. Will some non IAS officer be appointed on this post? May be yes. If the sources are to be belived, Mr. A. Omkarnath, IA&AS is in consideration for this post.

Mr. Prashant to be CVO, Oil India?


Mr. Prashant, IAS (WB, 1988), who completed his tenure as Director in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance on 07th September, 2008 is tipped to be in consideration for appointment as next Chief Vigilance Officer, Oil India Limited under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.


Mr. Alok Bhatnagar appointed A. S., CVC



Mr. Alok Bhatnagar, CSS (1977) has been appointed as Additional Secretary in the Central Vigilance Commission. The post is equivalent to the rank of Joint secretary in the Government of India. The post had fallen vacant following the appointment of the earlier incumbent to the post, Mr. V. Kannan, as Member, SSC in the moth of March, 2008.

Mr. Rahul Sharma gets extension

Mr. Rahul Sharma, IPS (GJ, 1992), DIG, CBI has been given extension in the central deputation tenure from 16th February, 2009 to 30th September, 2009.

CSS officers get in-situ promotion

Mr. Buddh Prakash, Mr. D. K. Sharma, Ms. Jaylaxmi Balachandran, Mr. D. K. Pandey, Mr. A. K. Goel, Mr. Hari Kumar, Mr. Om Prakash and Mr. Geeta Ram are the CSS officers who have been given in-situ promotion in the rank of Joint Secretary.
