Contrary to all the speculations and rumours about the shifting of present Home Secretary, Mr. Madhukar Gupta, IAS (UL, 1971), prior to completion of his tenure in March, 2009 in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks, he is likely to remain intact and continue with his current position, sources said.
Mr. V. S. Sampath to become next Power Secretary?
Mr. V. S. Sampath, IAS (AP, 1973), Secretray in the Department of Chemicals & Petro Chemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers is belived to have emerged as the new and most probable contender to become next Secretary, Ministry of Power, sources informed. Ms. Sushama Nath, IAS (MP, 1974), Secretary in the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance may be shifted to the Cabinet Secretariat. She is tipped to be in consideration for appointment as the next Secretary, (PG & Coordination) in the Cabinet Secretariat. Ms. Renuka Viswanathan, IAS (KN, 1971), Secretary (PG & Coordination) in the Cabinet Secretariat will superannuate on 31st December, 2008.

Following the retirement of Mr. V. Leeladhar from the post of Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India in this month, Ms. Shyamala Gopinath, Deputy Governor of RBI is looking after the responsibility held by earlier by Mr. Leeladhar as an additional charge. Chakrabarty, Chairman and Managing Director of Punjab National Bank and Mr. Mr. Yogesh Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of IDBI Bank are the conteders to be appointed as Deputy Governor, RBI with Mr. Narayanasami having edge over the rest three.

The CSB had recommended fifty IAS officers of 1989 batch for empanelment in the rank of Joint Secretary or equivalent in the Central Government. According to sources, the posting of these officers as Joint Secretary in the Government of India is not expected before the mid of February, 2009.
