Mr. Madhukar Gupta may become Election Commissioner

The Home Secretary, Mr. Madhukar Gupta, IAS (UL, 1971) may be appointed as Election Commissioner. Contrary to some media reports, Mr. Gupta has bright chances to get this important position. The Mumbai terror attacks which are being speculated as the reason for him losing this post, seems baseless. If the attacks would have impacted Mr. Gupta that much, he too had been shown the exit route along with the Union Home Minister at that time.

Mr. Jitesh Khosla given extension

Mr. Jitesh Khosla, IAS (AM, 1979), Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has been given three months extension on completion of his central deputation tenure on 20th January, 2009. According to sources, the issue of his extension of tenure was strongly backed by the Minister of Corporate Affairs although the Cabinet Secretary had some reservation over giving him extension due to the rumour of Mr. Khosla’s involvement in the recent scandal involving a software giant in the country.

Is Mr. Jitesh Khosla getting extension? If yes, then why?

Is Mr. Jitesh Khosla, IAS (AM, 1979), Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, whose central deputation tenure will come to end on 20th January, 2009 being backed for extension in his tenure? To succeed Mr. Khosla as the next Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the name of Ms. Renuka Kumar, IAS (UP, 1987) has been approved by the Minister, sources said. Although, the name of Ms. Kumar has been approved by the Minister, the case of extension of Mr. Khosla is supposed to have the support of none but the Minister of Corporate Affairs itself and according to sources, the Cabinet Secretary due to certain issues is not keen and belived to have some reservation over giving him extension. Mr. Khosla is likely to be empanelled in the rank of Additional Secretary in the Government of India, if the empanelment, which is supposed to happen soon, takes place within the time frame of his extended tenure paving his way to remain in Delhi. The rumour is that the recent scandal involving a software giant in the country is somehow playing a spoiler of the chance of this officer for extension.
